The historic african american turn out is what swung the prop 8 battle towards outlawing gay marraige. It wasnt just the mormon and faith based groups who stood against this….African Americans voted 7-3 against it.
When Tom Hanks spewed his stupidity recently against the mormons being un-American for their vote and being against gay marraige, he failed to mention any other groups while still basking in Obama’s victory. More than half of Hispanics as well, married people and christian groups
I have yet to see anyone sit outside a black church and display their rage against the law……but if youre a southern california restaurant owner who happened to end up on someone’s hit list of people and businesses who were for defining marraige as between a man and a woman, a gay mob would show up and intimidate you out of business (even if you had many gay employees and patrons).
Here’s a leading website in “outing” prop 8 supporters…..i dont see any mention of anyone who isnt white, and christian or mormon…..why arent they attacking the real cause of their loss???? Here’s another article about another blacklist, and look at how companies can get on their hitlist without any support or opposition. They even showed up and vandalized churches recently who are “gay friendly”.
Also, why is it hate if you dont agree with their choices? These people are cowards and sore losers.
When some of them show up and rage outside of a rap concert or a black baptist church, then I’ll take them seriously.
Oh, and President Barack Obama thinks marraige should be between a man and a woman….i have yet to hear anyone in hollywood take him to task, and i missed the marches and outcries during his inaguration.
Not one vandalized “yes, we can” poster to be found….
As usual, you are wrong. again. As a Black person I quite a few other people of color did deal with churches. Black churches in particular had posted Yes on 8 signs outside of their churches. We did tell them that we would advise the state regarding their involvement in campagning and tax exempt status. Some lawn signs were removed voluntarily. Because this issue was not given the publicity the morman church ivolvement was, does not mean it did not happen. You might also want to look at the breakdown of WHO voted yes on 8. Because people voted does not mean they voted on all initiatives, that was a long ballot in the state.
you know, say it as you will….the votes went down and demographics voted just like i posted…..its still overwhelmingly opposed in all major polls by african americans…..the stats are the truth….what you saw is a microcosm, but the vast majority of blacks oppoosed it with their vote…sorry, the ballots dont lie.
