Its like white men cant jump….the famous part where woody Harrelson is trying to get under Wesley Snipe’s pre incarceration skin….I can hear Jimmy, I can hear Jimmy. Its about how you can listen to something over and over and never hear it’s message.
“But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.”
Al Sharpton may actually be the most bitter man on this planet. There’s nothing that isnt about race to this man. Always seeking to inject himself into every argument that might involve people of different races. This was not Dr. King’s wishes. And years later Im still waiting for an apology to the Duke Lacrosse players from Rev. Al. Dont think that one is coming. If the racial shoe was on the other foot, he would have ran in there demanding this unjust jaling be undone. Some times it best to sit back and let the facts roll in and forget the races involved.
Let’s read on…
“The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.
We cannot walk alone.”
That’s pretty amazing stuff. He didnt ask for a special place at the table, he just wanted all to sit side by side and make this the best country it could be for all involved. Last year when the President rushed to judgement on the Cambridge police incident, and also with his previous comments about his ‘white’ grandmother…I believe the President could learn a thing or two from actually hearing this speech as well.
